Todoist Foundations is proof that the task manager was modern enough already to not need a major revamp, but in the areas that could use refinements, Todoist’s team has done an excellent job. Hopefully before larger projects like Boards debut, Todoist can at least begin getting up to speed with iOS’ new features. Todoist does offer its own native dark theme, but it’s not currently integrated with your device’s system setting. However, I’m disappointed that in today’s major release there’s still no support for system dark mode on iOS, not to mention advanced iPad functionality like multiwindow. It’s not uncommon for Todoist to take some time to gain new iOS system features because the app is cross-platform, spanning Android, Windows, the web, and more. I’m intrigued by the promised Upcoming View and Boards option, but on the more immediate horizon I’m hoping Todoist’s team has iOS 13 feature adoption at the top of its priority list. This makes it easy to keep track of which labels are your own, and which were set by your colleagues. Whenever a task in one of your shared projects has a label added to it, you’ll see that label in a new Shared section of your labels list. Todoist has long offered an excellent shared projects feature for collaboration, and now the app will apply that functionality to labels too. I really like what Todoist has done with its new task views: by emphasizing the most important options via design adjustments, they’ve made each view simpler to use while simultaneously, in the case of the new sub-tasks section, adding new functionality. Like the Quick Add view, the updated task view makes key metadata more prominent and everything easier to understand it also features a dedicated Sub-task section, where you can add and view all sub-tasks associated with that task. For existing tasks, tapping them loads a fresh task view which pops up from the bottom of the screen on iPhone as a modal card, while on iPad it slides in from the right side of the screen. When creating a task, the redesigned Quick Add view makes date and project more prominent than before, while still offering access to other options like flags, comments, and labels. Todoist has newly improved views for two key task screens. Todoist’s new Quick Add (left) and Task (center, right) views. I find this especially handy in the Next 7 Days list, where the Dynamic Add button is an easy way to assign new tasks to a specific due date, but it also works great in projects, especially in conjunction with the new sections feature. Dynamic Add ButtonĪlso clearly inspired by Things 3, the button for adding new tasks in Todoist can now be picked up and dropped into the exact place you want that task in your list or project. If, for example, you create sections for a project based on the different ordered stages that need to be tackled, it could be a significant focus aid to hide future stages while keeping them close at hand for reference. I’ve found this a key addition so you can see only the tasks you want to focus on at any given time. Every section includes an arrow you can tap to either show or hide the tasks it contains. Though sections largely serve the same purpose as Things’ headings, they offer one functional benefit you won’t find in Things: they can be collapsed or expanded. Personally, I would have appreciated an option to see section information from within those other pages too, but even without that sections remain a valuable tool inside project views. Like in Things, sections are strictly a visual organization aid, they don’t actually impact a task’s metadata this means, for example, that when viewing a task inside the Today or Next 7 Days lists, you won’t see any information about which section a task is sorted under, only the project it’s assigned to. Sections can be reordered within a project via drag and drop, and you can drag and drop your tasks too as an easy way to sort them under a given section. When viewing any project in Todoist, tapping the triple-dot icon will reveal the option to add a section to that project. Sections are Todoist’s take on the same concept, but with one added bonus to them. One of my favorite additions to Things when its big version 3 update launched was that you could add headings to your projects, enabling a new level of task organization. Sections are a new way to organize tasks inside projects. Honestly, it sounds much stronger than the English pronoun, “you”. So, when they are used together, “anata” can work as the subject word.įrom these two facts, we can understand that “anata” in the phrase, “anata wa”, sounds strong. “Anata” is a pronoun meaning ‘you’ in Japanese. So, when they use it intentionally in a sentence, it sounds strong. Japanese native speakers quite often omit the subject word in a sentence. In my opinion, there are two reasons it sounds weird to native speakers. Then, let’s take a look at the reasons it can sound weird to Japanese native speakers. Its role highly depends on the situation and context, but it can work like an English be verb.įrom these two components, we can understand that the phrase, “anata wa”, literally means ‘you are’ in Japanese. Sometimes it works as a case marker and sometimes it works as a topic marker. This is a pronunciation rule in the Japanese language. When it is used as a particle, however, it is pronounced “wa” instead. This hiragana character itself corresponds to the “ha” sound. wa – は : a binding particle working as a case marker or topic marker.I will explain this point after the other component. Yet, this pronoun plays a significant role in making the phrase weird. Its grammatical definition and meaning are very, very simple and clear. anata – あなた : a pronoun meaning ‘you’ in Japanese. To understand this phrase more clearly, however, let me explain its components in detail, one by one. Its definition and meanings are simple and clear, I think. It could also be used like “and you?” with the pitch raised. anata wa – あなたは : a Japanese phrase for ‘you are’.Example #3: conversation without “anata wa”įirst of all, let me start with the definition and meanings of “anata wa”.Example #1: how to say “you are” in Japanese.Reason #2: it is not familiar to native speakers. In this blog post, therefore, I will explain “anata wa” in detail based on its components and also why it can sound weird to native speakers. Japanese learners often say “anata wa” in order to mean ‘and you?’ This phrase is understandable, but honestly it can sound weird to Japanese native speakers. While learning Spanish verb conjugations is important, it's not necessary to memorize them fully by heart to start using the imperfect subjunctive in Spanish. In both cases, you can express a wish using the word Ojalá. On the other side, the second example uses no time markers but expresses an idea referring to the past. As you may see, you can use time markers like “ esta tarde” to talk about the future. The first example above uses the present subjunctive. Present and imperfect subjunctive with chunks Spanish Let’s see two chunks to help you get a clearer picture. Of course, these conditions are different one from another. Since both help you express your subjective perception, you can express conditions. You can only use the present subjunctive to talk about present or future events depending on the context. The imperfect subjunctive can be used to talk emotions, feelings, wills and desires You can differentiate the imperfect subjunctive from the present subjunctive not only by the way verbs are formed and conjugated but by the way you use them. Generally, as said, they are placed in the past. Making use of time marks, they can be placed in the present, past, or future. Native speakers use the imperfect subjunctive to express: emotions, feelings, wills and desires. First, let’s cover when you should use the imperfect subjunctive Spanish.
